If you have cpanel, it has a backup "tab" which not only does a sql dump, but also full site backups. For the sqldump, you can choose which database you want to backup. Also it allows you restore from these backups using the same interface. If your webhost doesn't give you something like t...

How about using the save function of your browser? (File->save page as in firefox). Alternately, just cut and paste the text you are interested in into a webpage composer/html editor. Mozilla's composer works fine for me.

Daai Tou Laam My webhost has now installed Pear Cache, and I've re-enabled the setCache() line. I assume they installed 1.5.4, as it's the version found on pear.php.net. It's hard not to install pear packages correctly, imho, as you only have to type pear install xxx. Have you checked your apache us...

Need PEAR Cache

OK, I've figured out what went wrong. You need the PEAR::Cache installed as well, or service->setCache will just die without a sound.

Maybe someone with CVS access can add a require() there? Or maybe the plugin can check if Cache exists before setCache()?

Weather plugin woes

I installed a fresh copy of serendipity on my PC to debug the problem I have with the weather plugin. Setup is apache2, php4, mysql on linux. Service_Weather is 1.3.1 from pear.php.net. Basically, the plugin doesn't show anything on the front page, but messed up the configure plugin page. After addi...

After the PEAR::Weather is installed, there are no errors anymore on the blog, but nothing shows up on the sidebar either. The configure plugins page is messed up. It only display plugins before the weather one. Have to use phpMyAdmin to unselect it (I'm using 0.7.1).

I've got my host to install the PEAR plugin, but it still doesn't work. (At least it doesn't show an error saying the PEAR weather isn't there). I meant to have a look at it, but i've got too much to do lately.

Garvin, thanks for the reply. Didn't know the link count is applied to trackbacks as well.

I thought MT has captcha plugins (for stopping comment spams). Or do they not work as well as they claim? I don't think serendipity has any measure to stop trackback spam, but I'm not sure.

Quick follow-up question: are these plugins, like, re-usable? What if I wanted two static pages, not just one? Could I make a copy of the plugin and call it something else? Yes, you can have as many static pages as you want. They're just blog entries without dates. You can re-name the plugins by ch...

Should I just unzip the serendipity build to the root of my website instead? I was hoping to keep it all in a subdirectory and just publish the index.php to the root website. Have a look at http://www.s9y.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=1854&highlight=#1854 . It shows how to create a 1-line index.ph...

If it's the PHP flaw, you'll be fine. Only versions before 4.3.10 are vulnerable.

The problem with disabling the nl2br plugin is that it affects all existing entries, not only the current or future ones. I've considered turning it off since putting <p> for every paragraph isn't much of a hassle, and I gain better control of <ul> and <tables>. However, I just can't face the daunti...
