Guestbook Spam

Post by Wizard »

I notice that I'm starting to get a lot of spam now to my Guest Book plugin. Is there a way to put a spam blocker on it? Maybe you add using captchas to help?.

I absolutely agree, the plugin should be made to co-operate with the captcha plugin, just like the contactform plugin does.

Sadly the guestbook plugin code is so obfuscated that I won't touch it. ;-)

Best regards,
Garvin

Wow, such harsh words. Well, I guess one of the talented members of the community might want to take this on, or perhaps the original author. In the mean time, I just might have to remove the plugin, it's just to much trouble for its worth! I get about 10-20 spam entries a day. It's tiresome to delete every day. Be careful what you ask for! You just might get it.

I guess no one is going make the Guest Book spam un-friendly. I starting to get about 5 per hour. My only recourse is to uninstall. Good bye Guest Book.

Word to the wise. Don't install this plug in!

The word to the wise would be: Improve the plugin! ;-)))

(Sorry for your pain...but I only got so much time to dedicate on s9y, and there are many other places my hands are digging in to ;-)

Best regards,
Garvin

Re: removing guestbook, or not?

Post by garvinhicking »

Hi!
The problem now is the guestbook link is still in the sidebar even though it is not installed in any way shape or form. How does one remove it?
If you use the staticpage plugin, this might offer a guestbook link. Go and confiugre the staticpage plugin to not show a guestbook link?

Best regards,
Garvin
