RSS Feed

Post by Gamersea »

Hello, I have a site what was running good for a few weeks long, but now the rss feeds are stop working, I have 3 of them:
1 of fd.nl
1 of planet.nl
and 1 of nivra.nl

However they stopped updating on the weblog since:
9 and 11 June, But the news does get updated and it also seems there rss's are getting updated.

Any 1 know how I can fix it?
I tryed to delete the plugin and put it back but that didn't worked out.

Re: RSS Feed

We could help you better if you give us the full URLs to your serendipity feeds. The URLs you gave us seem to be sites where you are linked, not where your RSS feeds are at?

Best regards,

They worked for a long time. but they just stopped at 9 and 11 june with updating on the blog.

However the urls:
http://www.fd.nl/rss/rss.asp?Id=basic_nieuws
http://www.nivra.nl/Actualiteiten/rss.a ... 20algemeen
http://www.planet.nl/rss/nieuws.xml

The question is why they stopped updating just like that.

You know, You can install plugins so you show people news from a other site through a rss. That worked long but now that stopped updating.

you know a example:

My site:
Rss feed of S9Y:
1.0 finally released.
posted at 15 june
1.3 beta released
posted on unknow.

My blog:
Hello, guys we update or blog.

Hope you understand it know. the bold text has stopped updating.

But gonna try 1.0 version maybe it works again then.

Hi!

Ah, you mean the RSS sidebar plugin "Remote Entries". Now I unerstand. :)

This feed caches itself and refreshes only after 24 hours. If the host is down at that time or not reachable, it will try again only after another 24 hours. Or you can also configure the cache time in the plugin configuration; if you set it to "20" days, it will then only update the feed every 20 days.

Also if your host maybe enabled a firewall, the remote feed can no longer be fetched. Or if you or your provider changed permissions on the "templates_c" folder, the cache files for the remote RSS plugin might no longer be writable, so they will always only show the contents of the cached file that can never be updated...

Garvin

Ok, Thanks, Will check out.
It think I didn't changed everything...

It just stopped at 9 june and on 11 June.

I exactly never saw something with 20 days to update..
the 10800 means seconds don't they?

Hi!

That's right, you enter seconds there. Maybe your provider changed something? Or maybe the sites weree really down or had connection problems when they should have been updated.

Well, I deleted the rss feeds and also the cache files in the templates_c (it is writeable) but if I add a new rss reader plugin now, the hole left side is away.

Hi!

Hm, this sounds as if your webserver no longer allose outgoing HTTP connections, if the plugin fails that serously.

Please check back with your provider and ask him if he recently changed anything, especially related to firewalls and the PHP config.

Ok, I gonna ask, I also can't acces the spartacus plugin anymore:

Sidebar Plugins

Trying to open URL package_sidebar_nl.xml...

edit: By the way is there a newer version of the rss feeder/reader.
Right now I have version 1.5.

(My own rss does work so the 1 of the blog itself)

Oh, yeah. Your server isn't allowing outgoing HTTP connections. That would immediately explain why two plugins requiring connections to external servers -- SPARTACUS and the RSS feed aggregator -- failed simultaneously.

Talk to your provider. Ask them to allow outgoing connections.

I asked my host, And they didn't changed anything.
So now is my question where else can my problem be?
My host sayed that if I putted this in my .htaccess file:
php_flag allow_url_fopen on
that I would be allowed then. However there was no .htaccess file so I made a new file with that name and putted this in it: php_flag allow_url_fopen on
However that still didn't worked.

Mabye I putted it in the wrong dir.

If somebody knows how I can fix it or if there is a newer sort of this plugin, Or knows where my .htaccess file have to be.

Hi!

Serendipity does not use allow_url_fopen, it simply opens a network connection.

Put this script as "test.php" inside your s9y directory and call it with your browser:

Code: Select all

<?php
include('http://www.google.de/');
?>
then you should see the google markup there.

Your problem is not related to serendipity or a plugin IMHO, but only with network/firewall issues.

Best regards,
Garvin
