Any plans to support OpenID?

Post by Keil »

I was just wondering:
Is there anyone, whether the main dev team or anyone else, planning to make a plug-in to support OpenID?

Thanks.

I never heard of that before, but it sounds nice. Of course it only makes sense if it gets widely adopted.

Implementing it into Serendipity would be easy thanks to its plugins. I'll try to take a look at it if I have some spare time, but if anyone else volunteers I'd enjoy that and could give some basic directions.

LJ is implementing it, and WP is apparently thinking of it, so I'm guessing it's probably going to end up very popular. There's supposedly a liscensing issue around this, though I haven't seen any evidence of that yet.

Anyhow, as for implementing it into S9Y, I'm up for helping with the implementation. I can't really lead it as I think it would be a bit much for me at the moment :)

Wow, that looks cool - I'll look into it tomorrow, but I've got loads of tests in the next few weeks :(

I've read a little more and although I still think it's kind of cool it's even more weird imho :P

And I don't get the point why they don't give a reference implementation (in PHP for example, because it's easily readable and most blog-softs are written in PHP).
I'll dig deeper tomorrow.

Someone has pointed out to me an LJ user who's already working on a PHP implementation. See the code and speak to them here:

OpenID wanted!

Post by James »

Anyone make any progress on this? It seems to be implemented everywhere now. Would be really convenient to work into s9y...

James,

where for example is it implemented everywhere? I haven't yet seen any blog supporting this for real - it would surely help us for getting it done on our side to see how others implemented it.

I'm also consulting winkiller, who wanted to look this up, and see if he got time to do some development :)

Thanks for the heads up,
Garvin

Well, LiveJournal, for one has now fully implemented OpenID. Here's an example site: http://www.livejournal.com/users/aliceisonfire/

These guys are also implementing it: http://openid.schtuff.com/

Here's a list of current OpenID servers: http://www.lifewiki.net/openid/OpenIDServers

As far as I know, WordPress and Typekey are both going OpenID.

I would write this myself if I knew what the hell I was doing! :)

Ah, okay. Sadly none of them is PHP powered which have already done that, and the others are still in development :)

But thanks for these links - I'll see if we can find a developer for that :-)

I'm afraid nobody has yet reported to me. Would you like to get involved?
